Pleasing the customers with extra value; how NOT to do it.

As a non-HD adopter, I'm getting slightly miffed at the way the studios are trying to get us to switch.

Better picture aside, when they were trying to convince us all to make the move to DVD, they threw in a bonus in the way of extra features.

Now, rather than give blu-ray users something extra (easily done given most Blu-Ray player's internet connectivity) they seem to be skipping more and more extras on DVD and making them Blu-Ray exclusive.

I first spotted this with Trick 'r Treat (No commentary on DVD), but looking at DVD / BR reviews in this months SFX, it's getting increasingly common.

The Purge, for instance, has a scant 9-minute featurette as its only special feature... and it's BR exclusive, another movie (I forget which now) has a vanilla DVD, with the trailer as the BR exclusive content... THE TRAILER?!?

Rather than offer extra value for Blu-Ray adopters, the tactic is to lower the value of a DVD, while giving the new format the extras that we had already come to expect...
